Creativity

 Creativity is a process #skill2learn

  • is about changing perspectives
  • helps us think differently which means it's set in the context of how we normally think
  • we need to separate the story of what we're doing,
from the perspective on what we're doing
and that's how we distinguish ordinary thinking, from creative thinking

Using and adding to our perspective is ordinary thinking. And what that means is, our perspective is not changing very much at all, but our stories are progressing.
Whereas when you change your perspective or you build a new perspective, usually your story isn't advancing much at all. But your perspective is changing like crazy, because we're figuring out a different way to even understand what we're doing. And so, our stories stop, but our perspectives change or get built and then that in turn is going to allow us to feed back and tell entirely different stories than we had before.

After you hit about 115-120 on the IQ scale there's no difference in eminent creators in IQ

Concepts are representations of types of entities in the world

Assumptions are not only about what things are, but also how they relate to one another.

Cues are the prompts to consider changing our perspective. Such cues are:

  • [impasse]
when we are no longer able to use & add to our perspectives to advance our stories

  • [dissatisfaction]
care about what you're doing; personal ambition

  • [surprise]
expectation failure; predictions; chance favors the prepared mind

  • [cross-talk]
something in one story might be related to something in another story #transfer

P.A.G.E.S.: Parts; Actions; Goals; Event; Self-Concept

Insight is a change to my current perspective.
Invention is a resolution of my current story.
Enlightenment is a change to my knowledge.

Tools for Thinking:

  • Analogy
pattern similarity; shift in perception & perspective

  • Re-categorization
    Zoom-In/Out (+/-); Consider the opposite; Switch P.A.G.E.S.

  • Combination
1# map properties from one concept onto another
2# link the two concepts in a scenario
    3# blend the concepts together

  • Association (passive)
diffused brain mode (alpha) ~ surprise cue

How intrinsic & extrinsic (motivator) factors (liberation/joy/rejection/persistence/money-awards) affect our creativity...

...to be productive, do not focus on being productive; but rather to be creative and persistent.

[counter-intuitive fact]

Too many options can be daunting; finding the right box can foster creativity.
This means, that:

  • Constraints enable creativity, even if they limit the possibilities of some aspects...
        in other words:
  •  Structure doesn't hamper creativity; it enables it.
